With empathy and humor, Mary creates a warm and supportive environment in which individuals, couples and families can get to the roots of their problems. She supplements her psychodynamic training and fifteen years of professional experience as a therapist with a wide range of techniques such as EMDR, guided imagery, meditation, and sand play to help clients achieve specific personal goals and deeper satisfaction in life.
Mary has found this often involves understanding and managing such problems as depression, anxiety, difficulty with authority, troubled relationships, substance abuse, domestic violence, and problematic life transitions. She believes we all have the internal capacity to resolve these problems and has aided many in discovering and developing their own internal resources. She has found that as clients tackle these problems, they often discover new meaning and unexpected joy in their lives.
In addition to her therapy practice, Mary coordinates the Contra Costa County Wellness to Independence Program (formerly CalWORKs) at Touchstone Counseling. She has a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from San Francisco State University and is a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT). She is also a lawyer, writer, mother, and grandmother.
